Facelift surgeries can repositions the facial muscles to improve a saggy, scarred or un-proportional face. The surgery can help in provide a younger look to the face and neck region. It can remove the deep creases along the eye area and the corner of the mouth, the fat that displaces the face and neck, and the excessive skin that provides a loose look to the face.

There are different types of techniques that surgeons use depending on the condition of the skin and the type of lift required. The procedure is general for all techniques which requires making and incision on the facial skin and working on tightening and pulling the tissues and muscles to achieve the desired result. The difference lies in the point of incisions made on the face to perform the surgery. The recovery period can take from a few weeks to approximately three months to complete. The common side effects for all types of facelift surgeries can include swelling, bruising and scarring because of the incisions made. The scarring can take longer time to fade away.

Traditional Facelift

This type of facelift requires making an incision from the temple area behind the hairline to the front of the ear around the earlobe back and ending in the hairline behind the ear. The skin is pulled outwards to have access to the muscles and tissues. The repositioning and tightening then takes place. This is also called the SMAS technique which stands for superficial nusculo-aponeurotic system. It works best for individuals above 45 with excessive sagging or neck laxity. It can cost around $10,000 to $15,000.

Short Scar Facelift

This is also called the MACS lift (minimal access cranial suspension). The process requires making an incision in S-shape from the temple to the front of the ear. As excess to the muscles and tissues is gained, the repositioning and tightening is done. This technique is for people with moderately excess skin and scars on the cheek area and no signs of aging on the neck region. It can cost around $6000 to $10,000.

Endoscopic Facelift

This type of facelift requires inserting an endoscope with is a probe with a tiny camera attached to it. It is inserted through three small incisions and displays the image of the internal facial structure on the screen. Surgical instruments are inserted through the incisions to remove the excess fatty tissue and reshape the facial muscles. It is ideal for people who do not have excess skin on their face and require minimal adjustments. There are almost fewer to no scarring in this case because of the small incisions made. Endoscopic facelift is suitable for people in their 30’s. It can cost around $6000 to $10,000.

Midface or Cheek lift

This technique targets the middle of the face where the incisions are placed in the hairline and inside the mouth. It is used to improve the nose to mouth line and sagging cheeks. The fatty layer of the cheek bone is repositioned to provide a firm look. This surgery can be combined with other types of facelift techniques. It can cost around $6000 to $10,000.

Thread lift

This is ideal for people not suffering from extreme skin sagging. It uses the tiny suture barbs that gather the skin layer upwards to tighten it. These sutures are attached to a thread to keep them in place. This technique is not very expensive and can cost around $1500 to $4500.
