Juvederm is a dermal filler that is made out of cross linked hyaluronic acid and is used to restore the skin volume. The hyaluronic acid is found largely in the connective tissues of the human body the purpose of which is to provide nutrients and aid hydration. It has a major role in reducing the wrinkles and fine lines on the skin.  Juvederm dermal fillers can help in plumping the skin from the bottom of the nose to the corner of the mouth, augmenting the hollows under the eyes, correcting scars, filling in the prominent wrinkles between the eyebrows and also plumping the lips.

The best thing about Juvederm is that the results appear immediately. The treatment of aging skin usually requires surgical procedures to achieve a firm smooth skin but the treatment with injectable fillers provides a quicker result with very few side effects. Normal activities can be resumed right after the treatment is complete.

The Process

Use of anti-inflammatory medications or smoking is to be stopped at least a week before the treatment.  Such activities can reduce the time of effectivity of Juvederm and also elevate the level of pain after the treatment. The process will require putting a numbing cream on the skin to avoid any discomforts like a topical anesthesia. The Juvederm will be in the form of a smooth gel in thin needle injections which are applied with less pressure. It is injected into the mid to deep dermis of the skin based on the amount of correction required. The whole process takes about 15 minutes to complete depending on the areas to be treated.

Recovery & Side Effects

After the treatment the treated area is not to be touched for some time to set the effect. The gel consistency will take time to integrate in the skin tissues. Exposure to heat and cold is to be avoided for at least two weeks but normal activities can be resumed right after the treatment is completed. It is also advised to wear sunscreen at day time and avoid using any alcohol based product on the face.

There will be minute amount of bruising and swelling on the skin which can finish up in a day or two. Other side effects can include redness, pain, lumps and skin tenderness which can be treated with proper medications.

The injections can be repeated periodically to have the exact result like a cosmetic surgery. Every treatment can last from about four to six months. People can prolong the effects of Juvederm for longer periods by maintaining proper levels of hydration in the body. There are treatments that can provide a full year effect and requires heavy doses of Juvederm to be injected.

Ideal Candidates & Cost

Anyone can have Juvederm treatment as long as they do not have skin allergies, infections or reactions to bacterial proteins or anesthesia. Juvederm treatment is not a very costly process and can take about $300 to $500 for a treatment based on the amount of area being treated.
